Life through the Eyes of the CA Island Fox
Location
Geographic Origins:
The Island Fox is unique to only six of the California Channel Islands (located in California, United States). Each island has a unique subspecies of the fox, named after the island. The fox is descended from the mainland gray fox. Fox fossils have been discovered dating from 6,400 cal years, several thousand years after humans colonized the island.
Habitats
The Island Fox favors habitats that have multi composited layers.
This species thrives in areas filled with vegetation intertwined in high density of woods and blossoming shrubs. The Island Fox flourishes in all of the island biomes including temperate forest, temperate grassland and chaparral. However, no island supports more than 1,000 foxes.
