Physical Description: The California Island fox is the smallest fox in North America and is thought to be a descended of the North American (mainland) gray fox. The fox evolved into a unique species around 10,000 years ago. The fox has a black,white, and gray coat on its back and a cinnamon colored and white colored coat on its underside. The fox moults twice a year. Males are, on average, heavier than females. The California Island fox weight from 1.3 to 2.5 kg and has a head-body length of about 45 to 63 cm.
